Peyronies Disease Surgery
As you probably have already read, Peyronie’s Disease is a condition in which the penis becomes curved. Presently, there are no known causes for the disease; however, 3% of the male population has been negatively affected by the disease.
For severe cases of bending or curving of the penis, a surgical procedure has been developed to correct it. This curvature correction procedure is known as the Nesbit Procedure.
What Is The Nesbit Procedure?
The Nesbit Procedure is carried out to correct curvature of the penis by filling the penis with a sterile physiologic salt solution. What this solution does is create an artificial erection. Then they clamp the outer side of the curve which initially forces the penis to straighten.
An implant alone with correct the curvature in some cases. However, in other cases, an implant is fused with a technique that consists of incisions and grafting. This process is only used should the implant not fix the curved penis.
It’s a known fact that the straightening procedure does work; however, the drawback is that it causes a slight shortening of the penis! Once the procedure is completed, the doctor instructs the patient on how to care for the surgical site by cleaning and changing bandages often so the site does not become infected. Also, the patient is advised to avoid sex until the wound is completely healed and approved by the doctor.

Although this is a relatively simple and safe procedure, like any surgical procedure it carries life-threatening risks. If you feel that you are a candidate for the Nesbit Procedure, consult your doctor first before taking any action. We advise you to gather as much information as possible before making your final decision to take on the risky procedure.
